A Successful Career of Managing Communications Projects



For 20 years, Brian Davis Lyles has been a team leader for marketing or fundraising departments at several non-profit organizations, in addition to business experience with for-profit companies.

Brian’s career history includes Direct Marketing and Promotion duties at Baltimore Magazine, Manager of Publications and Marketing for The Engineering Society of Baltimore, Editor of the Baltimore Engineer magazine, Director of Development & Marketing at the Baltimore Museum of Industry, and Deputy Director of Individual Giving at Baltimore Center Stage.

In addition to many years working and volunteering in cultural arts, for nearly 10 years Brian worked in health care, serving as Grants Manager at Children’s National Health System in Washington, DC, Manager of Corporate & Foundation Relations for the Neurogenomics Division of TGen (the Translational Genomics Research Institute) in Phoenix, Arizona, Director of Corporate Communications at Genesis HealthCare Corporation, and Director of Communications for People's Community Health Centers, based in Baltimore City.

Brian also served as Chief Operating Officer of 2Hearts Consulting LLC, a philanthropy consulting firm specializing in transformational giving campaigns. (Brian is an experienced consultant himself, completing numerous freelance and pro bono marketing projects, in addition to personal achievements in the literary, visual and performing arts.)

For five years, Brian was Communications Director for SeKON Enterprise, a Washington, DC-area federal contractor specializing in health IT services. He served a Senior Communications Specialist for projects at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and the National Institutes of Health (NIH).

Most recently, Brian was Director of Development for Baltimore’s Chesapeake Shakespeare Company.


Born in Baltimore, Brian Lyles is a graduate of Gilman School and Loyola University Maryland, where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Creative Writing. Additional training includes a certificate in Fundraising earned in New York and a certificate in Management earned in Washington, DC.

Brian enjoys urban life, history, civic affairs, art, design, architecture and green spaces. He is a frequent supporter of local culture and events, and Baltimore is often the subject of his personal photography and videography.
